Laszlo Krasznahorkai's A Mountain to the North, A Lake to the South, Paths to the West, A River to the East was initially published in Hungary in 2003. Translated by Ottile Mulzet, I read an edition published in 2022 by Tuskar Rock Press, which is an imprint of Profile Books.
Detailed in its description, this is a story that dwells.
"you could hear them as they rustled and wailed and wept and whistled and howled and bellowed and grew quiet and turned into breezes, someone's face felt a breeze caressing it, or a trembling goldfinch feather on a branch fluttered, in brief, they could be seen in the world, and heard, and they could be felt there"
In brief, Krasznahorkai is a skilled writer, his writing is not brief and yet at the end of this book you feel you have only briefly been a witness of his work. With more time to read, I feel I would enjoy it more, a novel to return to.
This is such a cool concept! I actually wanted to do something similar, so I'm looking forward to going thorugh your blog for inspiration 😊 -Marki from therainbowreader.com
