An old idea, a beginning

I couldn't tell you when I first started to read and enjoy translated fiction but there are notable books that stick out from my childhood: Herge's Tintin books taught me to read, the copy of Zazie dans le Metro that I read in my early teens. Later I recall reading all of Banana Yoshimoto's stories translated in to English.

Some years ago I decided it would be a fun project to read a published novel from every internationally recognised nation state but I had children and for ten years there seemed to be little time for anything but parenting. Now in 2020 I am beginning to read regularly again and the project is on.

I'm going to use this site to document the books I read. I'm going to try to read contemporary fiction although that might be difficult on occasion. Let's see what's easy, what's difficult and how far I need to go to find a translated novel from every country.
