A General Theory of Oblivion was written by José Eduardo Agualusa and published in the original Portuguese in 2012. Translated into English by Daniel Hahn, the paperback edition I read was published by Vintage in 2016.
This is a book about Angola, independence, lives lost and changed and primarily about Ludovica, who bricks up the entrance to her flat as civil unrest takes place around her. I learnt a lot about Angola while reading this book, it was a novel that gave me an insight into the history of a country that I knew nothing about and I enjoyed that insight thoroughly.
