Inlands by Elin Willows, translated by Duncan J Lewis and published in 2020 by Nordisk Books.
Born in Sweden, Elin Willows has lived in Finland for over a decade. Interestingly, Swedish and Finnish are both official languages of Finland, so although I will continue to look for a book written in Finnish that is recently published it seemed foolish to ignore Inlands as a viable choice for Finland. It is such an interesting, static novel, featuring a female protagonist who does not feel moved to make new choices but ruminates on her present. This book reminded me that many of the choices we make are provoked by circumstance, not born of an active plan.
