Ghachar Ghochar was written in the South Indian language Kannada and it was a departure for me. I've never read anything that was translated from this language before but it's a language with a rich history. Modern Kannada emerged around 1700 and its longevity was a good choice for my journey in translated fiction.

The book details the dynamics of a family that gain wealth and change considerably in their attitudes. It was a book about a man, written by a man which turns out to be an interesting contrast to some of the other books I've chosen that have a female protagonist and author, in particular La Bastarda. It felt fretful, the protagonist very anxious but its humour carried it.
