In the acknowledgments at the back of Eimear McBride's Strange Hotel is a short note "Thanks to my editors Alex Bowler and Mitzi Angel, whose patient attention it was in need of." This beautifully written and edited novel has no translator but on this occasion a brief nod to the editors felt fitting.
Strange Hotel was published this year by Faber & Faber and it is not a book about Ireland but having observed the contemporary internationalism of Ireland over the last few years, the selection of this particular novel, set in so many countries, within a variety of hotels, felt less of a stretch and more its own acknowledgment.
