While browsing in my local bookshop I found Liar by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen. Originally written in Hebrew, first published in Tel Aviv and then translated by Sondra Silverston, the copy I read was published by Pushkin Press.
A desire to immerse myself in contemporary Israeli culture without going too deep in to issues around Palestine influenced my choice to read this book. Centred around themes of neglect, abuse and media scrutiny, this story felt very current and touched on prevailing themes of the last decade that continue to loom large in women's psyches. Well written, with light humour, this novel had a good flow but could be very difficult reading for someone who has felt doubted in their own account of abuse.
