Poland

Four generations of women live, or have lived, in Lwow. This is the premise of "The House with the Stained-Glass Window" written in Polish by Zanna Sloniowska. Perhaps choosing a novel set entirely in modern day Ukraine seems strange but it fit neatly in to my own family history. My grandmother's family were from a part of Ukraine that was in Poland pre-WW2 so the temptation to read this particular novel was personal.

Polish is one of 13 minority languages spoken in Ukraine but this novel was translated from its original Polish by Antonia Lloyd-Jones, published in the UK by MacLehose Press Editions and the publication subsidised by The Polish Book Institute.
